About Us

Hybrid Chemical Technologies is a culmination of strategic partnerships with manufacturing, blending and logistics specialists, scientists and experienced support offered under one unified banner.

This model affords us significant adaptive abilities to tailor unique solutions, beginning at the molecular level right through to our application field chemists who possess the tools and experience to optimize and enhance our clients’ economic returns seamlessly. A shift in the energy industry has forced stakeholders to reduce costs in order to stay competitive. The result has been service-related companies eliminating non-revenue generating roles. At Hybrid, we evaluate each reservoir as its own individual entity and formulate a production/completion chemistry fluid system specifically designed to maximize the potential of each well.

Leadership

Peter Beaton

President

After graduating from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1993, Peter started a decade-long career with Schlumberger Well Services working in both Canada and the USA, progressing through positions including equipment operator, lab technician, engineering/programming, and sales. He then transitioned to a Startup fracturing service provider, Century Frac Services, where his roles and responsibilities included lab technician, lab manager as well as logistics and procurement manager. After four years, Century Frac was acquired by Calfrac Well Services where Peter assumed the role of Operations and Technical Support Advisor reporting to the Canadian President. In 2010, Peter started Fusion Technologies Inc, a company developed to assist pumping company start-ups with supply of formulated chemistry, laboratory design and onsite field support. In 2019, Peter founded Fusion Technologies (Australia) Pty Ltd, a company emulating the same service/products as its Canadian sister company for the coal seam gas wells in the Surat/Cooper basins.

Kewei Zhang PhD

Vice President, Research & Development

Dr. Zhang holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry (Colloid & Interface Sciences) from Lund University, Sweden. Over the last 23 years, Dr. Zhang has accumulated vast experience in research and development within the oilfield service industry. This encompasses areas of focus such as fracturing fluids, proppant surface modification, and other oilfield chemistry. Dr. Zhang is the inventor/co-inventor of numerous patented and commercially successful products. Several notable industry leading products include the world’s first self-suspending proppant technology by attaching micro-bubbles to proppant surfaces as it facilitates buoyancy resulting in enhanced transport deeper into fractures. Dr. Zhang has developed products for minimizing proppant flowback at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods, dust suppression technology for oilfield proppant as well as commercial and agricultural use. He has created surfactants focused on a functionalized dendritic surfactant for production enhancement. Dr. Zhang has a strong ability to understand the connection between field operations and molecular formulations to create innovative and practical solutions.

Kosta Kollias P.Chem

Vice President, Sales & Marketing

Kosta Kollias is a Professional Chemist registered with the Association of the Chemical Profession of Alberta (ACPA). Kosta began his career in the oil and gas industry after graduating from the University of Northern British Columbia in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. In 2002, he started his career as a Drilling Fluid Technician with DMK Drilling Fluids Ltd. He then worked as a Field Operator/QC Technician for 2 years with Sanjel Energy Services. He spent 4 years with Century Frac Services in the Lab/Engineering group before it was acquired by Calfrac Well Services in 2010. Kosta started a decade long career with Calfrac Well Services, progressing through positions within the Engineering and Sales group. Kosta is skilled at achieving high levels of client satisfaction and building long-term, mutually beneficial relationships. He is a very strategic thinker with a strong technical background in Drilling and Completion services. Kosta has spent the majority of his career focusing on the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin dedicated to the optimization of oil and gas production.

Warren McVicar P.Chem

Technical Director

Warren McVicar is a Professional Chemist registered with the Association of the Chemical Profession of Alberta (ACPA). After earning his degree from the University of British Columbia in 2012, Warren moved east to begin his career in the Canadian energy sector. Leveraging his education in chemistry and biochemical studies, he joined Fusion Technologies in a Technical Specialist role. Warren designed stimulation fluids in the laboratory, carried out research and development projects and performed quality control testing in the field. He then progressed on to a management role creating processes and procedures, cultivating human capital and overseeing day to day operations. Warren also provides experience in business development, technical sales, logistics/procurement and has a passion for applying chemistry to solve everyday problems.
